Watson Wednesdays

This Watson Wednesday features his number two woman in honor of her wedding this weekend. Bubbas loves you so much and you'll never be replaced in his heart even though you're replacing him with Taylor. Thank you for loving him as much (if not more) as I do! You've been an amazing roommate and friend and I couldn't be happier for you.

Watson might think a little differently. He's pretty jealous. I asked him for a quote and he had no comment. Typical.

Taylor, I'm sorry but I don't think you'll ever be able to cuddle Jessica the way Watson does. Below is proof. You aint got nothin' on him.

We'll miss you, Wessa.

The (Not So) Secret is Revealed

Hello world. I come to you today to reveal a (not so) secret. I also come to you wearing KU basketball shorts with an ice pack in my lap. Let's get that story out of the way before I reveal the (not so) secret.

I went and picked up some wonton soup and special fried rice from Cafe Chino and headed over to Will's apartment. Happy as a clam, I was slurping my scolding hot soup when my brain-dead boyfriend decided to pick up the sofa I was sitting on to plug in his computer. You can imagine where the soup ended up. Yes, my friends, in my lap. Looks like a sunburn but it's a soupburn.

Now, my usual melodramatic self would have exaggerated the scream and pulled an exorcistic head rotation BUT this was a legit yelp for help. Will knows it too. He admitted he had never heard me scream like that before. Victory.

Now, my usual grudge holding self would milk this for all it's worth and that's exactly what I'm going to do. It's not very often that your boyfriend burns you. I mean, this could potentially affect the way I walk down the aisle at Jessica's wedding on Saturday and would be something she remembers for her whole life! That's not the melodramatic side of me coming out either. It's just me being a good friend.

I think I will propose NOT helping him paint his house on Monday. AH! The (not so) secret has been revealed!!

Will (hereto referred to as lap burner) closed on his house today over lunch!! It's a really precious little ranch style house in Larchmont where all the cool kids are living these days. Lap burner is really excited and will be moving in with two "bud-dehs" (also known as buddies) and will create what is surely to be a man cave that I will be expected to clean. Joking. We all know I will volunteer to vacuum on a weekly basis because I am seriously deranged.

Anywho, lap burner and I have a lot of fun projects in mind and I will be featuring the little house's transformation every once in a while for my own amusement.

So there it is. The not so secret. Not so secret, is it? I know most of you knew this was coming. Hopefully I'll have something more climactic to keep you coming back for more Semi-Designed Life next time.

Just enjoyed my tasty fortune cookie because I couldn't stand to look at the soup anymore. My fortune? "Good luck is the result of good planning." Gosh. It's like the fortune cookie writers know me or something. I've been trying to tell Will that for years! Ironic since that's exactly what I'm going to do tonight. Plan.

Plan for the very busy and exciting weekend I have ahead of me. Attend (and bawl hysterically) Jessica and Taylor's wedding, host Liz's fabulous hat party bridal shower and WATCH lap burner paint his house while I enjoy a fruity cocktail.

Hope everyone has a relaxing Memorial Day weekend! Time to change my ice pack.

A Bangin' Birthday

So, I turned 24 yesterday and plan to turn 24 every year for the next six years. So, obviously this first 24th birthday was an important one to celebrate. I truly had one of the most amazing birthdays I've had in a very long time.

Woke up, walked the pup and checked the mail. I had a birthday card from my momma! What a nice way to start one's birthday celebration! Inside, the most thrilling image I've seen in quite some time...

A picture of the purse I've been obsessing over!! On back order for two months but it will surely be a birthday celebration all over again when it arrives. Thanks momma! I loooooooove it and you!

Practically skipping into work after my exhilarating discovery, I approached my desk and put on an even bigger, brighter smile. My co-workers really went over the top and completely spoiled me rotten. Check out my loot! How could someone have a bad birthday when you feel this loved?! I work with such sweet people!

Rose plant and card from Kristin
Wine, card and gift card from Abril and Brandi
Card, brownies and extra goodie from Anthony, Jon and Graham
Gorgy flowers and card from Traci and Jennifer
Paper goodies (horray!!), pastries (horray!!) and coffee (I was tripping on a caffeine overload) from Crossley. She clearly understands my loves.
Delicious chocolate covered strawberries from bestie for life, Katy (not a co-worker but sent a gift to the office)

I went to lunch with all the work ladies to Escalante's and had a tasty spinach enchilada and enjoyed some serious interior design chatter. Traci is moving soon and is excited to decorate her new place. I'm obviously excited to give her little tips I've learned along the way!

Close up of the beautiful flowers Traci and Jennifer got me. They said my blog inspired them! Thanks girls. Peonies just make me smile.

I came home after work to find Watson dilly dallying around the apartment like he owned the place. My initial fear was that a pair of my shoes or my sofa/pillows were destroyed. I surely thought Jessica had come home and let him out. He couldn't have been out all day, could he?! We don't know if he was ever kenneled yesterday morning or if he pulled a Houdini. Either way, he was a good boy and didn't destroy anything!! This is a serious step forward. This means I might, just MIGHT, be able to uncrate train him and replace his repulsive kennel with a desk! Does this birthday get any better? Yes.

I got a gorgeous necklace in the mail from Will's sweet parents. I can't wait to wear it in Georgia in a few weeks!

Headed over to our new favorite restaurant, Poscol, with Willis and shared a delightful meal and bottle of wine. Poscol is an Italian tapas restaurant and has some serious culinary delights! At the end of the meal, Will leans to one side and pulls a card out of his back pocket and puts this silly little grin on his face and says, "I sat on it". I opened up the wrinkled red envelope and pulled out a really sweet card.

"I'd be lost without you"

I won't bore you with the nice things he said inside the card, but I will show you that I liked it enough to keep on my bedside table. AND it came along with two tickets to see Wicked in July! Absolutely cannot wait. Good work Willzer. Thank you for always making me smile.

Went home after dinner and wrote a handful of thank you notes to all the sweet people who made my birthday so memorable. All in all, I had an incredible birthday and I thank everyone who made a point to make me feel special on my first 24th birthday. I'm so lucky to have such generous and loving people in my life!

Special shout out to my birthday buddy Mackenzie, whose birthday is today. Even though we're a day apart, we're different astrological signs. Which I believe is the reason why we're such buddy buds. Hope you've had an amazing birthday at the beach, Macky!

Stay tuned... something EXTREMELY exciting is happening on Tuesday and will offer a whole host of things to blog about. Don't let the anticipation kill you. Go out and enjoy your weekend already!

Calligraphy? Not just for losers?

How much of a loser does that make me? Please be honest.

Completely Lost My Marbles

Good morning blogosphere. I had the brilliant idea last week to set my Monday morning alarm for 5:22 am and thus I am awake. Of course Watson is still in a deep slumber and is currently kicking me as he dreams of chasing bunny rabbits.

Professional dreaming rabbit chaser

For the past few Sundays I've gone completely nutballs. I get a wild urge to craft like I've never crafted before (at 4:00 pm, mind you) and I find myself running from fabric store to craft store in a wild panic trying to get in before they close. As discussed previously, all (three) of my friends are getting married this year and I'm so excited to be a part of their special days and so, I feel that it is my crafty obligation to make their presents (and every other aspect of the days leading up to their weddings) special for them. I stayed up until 11:00 last night wrapping presents. WRAPPING PRESENTS. There were only three. Lord. What's going to happen to me at Christmas?! I'm going to need one of you to tell me every single day to drop my scissors and trimmings and step away from the gifts. The hours of gift wrapping paid off and I think I officially managed to make the gifts undesirable to unwrap. Guess you girls will never know what's in them because you'll be admiring my handiwork instead.

Liz's gifts (yes mother, I wrapped yours too)

Jessica's HEAVY gift
(why of course I will make flowers for the top of your present for an hour and a half, who wouldn't?)

Now that I've divulged my (non)secret desire to be a mini Martha, I'm comfortable showing you what else I tend to waste my time on. I have a serious obsession with flowers and tend to buy them for myself frequently. I also tend to receive them when Will has said something particularly foolish that day. Either way, giving or receiving, I just love flowers.

OBSESSION of all OBSESSIONS - PEONIES!!!
Peonies Will bought me last year from CM.
(this time he didn't say anything foolish, he was just being a sweet boy)

I only go to Central Market to make my flora purchases and have trained suggested Will go there too. He has absorbed my thoughtful advice and every time he goes, the same woman that helps him tells him he looks like Ricky Martin. Ha.

I quiz Will frequently on my top five favorite flowers. I suggest you ladies do the same to adequately train inform your man. After all, they really don't want to waste their money on flowers you think are fugly.

Anywho, I'm getting on my flower soapbox right now because I made one of the prettiest arrangements in all my arrangements yesterday for my step-mother for mother's day. Typically, I keep my arrangements monochromatic as to not get it "wrong". This is a sure fire way to have yourself a beautiful arrangement. I also suggest you tell your men this little tip too. It's amazing what they're able to absorb. Now, as I said, I'm usually drawn to all white flowers.

Arrangement I made for a co-workers wife when she came home from the hospital after baby boy #3

But yesterday, I was feeling a little loco and decided to spice things up a bit. When I brought these into the house, my dad immediately said that the french tulips look like brussel sprouts. Obviously he hasn't been trained yet.

Step-mother's arrangement for Mother's Day

Well, I fell in love with this arrangement and really didn't want to leave it there. It was a proud moment and I felt guilty for leaving it with people who think some of the flowers look like brussel sprouts. Instead, I shot a quick picture and looked at it (and showed Will multiple times) throughout the day.

My NORMAL alarm just went off and so I will bid you adieu. Happy Monday everyone!

Good morning, professional rabbit chaser

A Bit of My Work Work

So I just realized that I haven't shared any of my actual design work with my avid fans. For those of you who don't know (and I know you all do because you're either my mother or my roommate) I work for a commercial real estate firm as a Marketing Coordinator. Basically I get to come up with logos and branding guides for office and industrial (warehouses) buildings. Now, you may be thinking that this is extremely unglamorous, and yesterday it wasn't as I was dodging goose droppings at a sketchy warehouse in northeast Houston, BUT I do have a lot of creative freedom in my job. That's pretty glamorous to me, and in this industry, it's practically unheard of.

Please take a gander at some of my favorite logos! Sorry they're low-res. I didn't want them to take forever to load for your curious eyes.
