Mailbox to Umbrella Stand

If you read the previous post you'll know that I met Jonathan Adler this week. And if you read the comments you'll see that I made a complete fool of myself and misquoted him in quite possibly the most embarrassing of embarrassing ways. So I'm here to try to redeem myself in honor of Mr. Adler and prove to him that I do, in fact, have a brain.

I fell in luuuv with my grandparent's old mailbox while perusing through their shed on a scavenger hunt back in college when I was screaming the praises of Rachel Ashwell (Still think she's the coolest Brit around) instead of Kelly Wearstler. How I have changed. As it was an old mailbox it screamed, "I am shabby chic hear me ROAR". So I loved it and probably actually stuffed some dried flowers in it and thought I was just as cute as a button. Then I realized country hoe down chic wasn't really chic at all and the mailbox kind of became an afterthought.

UNTIL I started hanging my umbrella in it. Me thinks, "how useful this little mailbox has become" and I started dreaming how I was going to transform it into something spectacular.

I bought a shiny glossy gloss gold tchotchke from JA on Thursday as a holiday gift for one of my besties (this particular gift is actually where the HORRID misquote unfolded. sheer and utter devastation.) and I got to thinking that my drab mailbox needed a shot of gold in it's life.

JAdler's Hans Hourglass Table

I'm currently in a relationship with this table.
Really. Check my relationship status on Facebook.

JAdler's Banana Bud Vase

This is how the little mailbox was transformed. I gave her a good scrubbin' and a little lovin'...

...before she got shaken down with some gold spray paint.

And that's where I stopped. Some DIY project, huh? I bought gold leaf and was fully intending to gold leaf the entire thing when I got to thinking that I wanted it to look more like a varnished gold than a burnished gold. So help. What do I do to gloss this lassie up? I want it to be so glossy that Watson can see his reflection in it so he can admire his long locks. Any and all advice is welcome.

He's still so embarrassed of me and my unfortunate "mishap".
He won't make eye contact with me. Man's best friend my...

When my mailbox/umbrella stand is in it's final stages of glory, I might celebrate by buying myself this umbrella:

Mod Baltic Stick Umbrella

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for fabulousifying my mailbox and how to profusely apologize to Jonathan Adler. That would just be super.

Meeting Jonathan Adler

Yes. That's right. I met Jonathan Adler. For really. Even I couldn't have Photoshopped the picture above.

He was just the cutest little muffin and I wanted to take him home. I mean, not just anyone can pull off a whale belt buckle. He obviously succeeded.

JA was at Kuhl Linscomb for a book signing on Thursday and my friend Crossley and I bolted home after work to primp for the quirky color god and pranced over there to get his Jonathan Hancock on his recently released books.

When he spelled Crossley's name spot on we gave him mad props. He proceeded to tell us that spelling was "the one thing I'm good at". Really Jonny? The ONE thing you're good at? Right...

Both books are a magical emporium of eye candy and delightful treats. He's truly a superior color  manipulator and puts happy in everything he does. I suggest you buy both of these books if you happen to be in a deep depression and you're looking for a saving grace.

Below are some examples of JA's faboo design skillz.

Not only is Mr. Adler a beyond superior designer, he is a merchandising fool. You should buy all of his goodies. All of them, you hear?!

And then JA has gone completely genius and offers a "Design Your Own" aspect to his site. I completely fell in love with this concept when I saw how gorgy Kyle from Knight Moves manipulated the customization with her fantastic rug in her family room. Be jealous...

Sister friend Kyle is not only a fellow Texas broad, but she has ridiculous rug style. That's a thing. Trust me. But out of all of her rugs, this is by far my favorite. I've stared at it trying to figure out how I could possibly recreate this pattern in Illustrator and put it on everything.

Anywhoozie. Meeting Mr. JA was truly a thrill and I hope we cross paths sometime in the future. So I can at the very least actually engage in interesting conversation rather than resorting to talking about the weather. It happened. But don't worry, we also talked about him being Jewish and how he "desecrates" (please see comments for the most embarrassing misquote of all eternity) all of his Christmas ornaments. It was such a lovely note to leave on. And therefore that's what I'm going to leave you on.

Happy weekend to you!

Fall Cleaning

Avid fans,

I plan on spending this glorious Saturday inside my little abode scrubbing away. Work has officially taken over my life and my apartment has spent the better part of this month looking something like this:

Poor, sad, pathetic little chair.

But alas! I am determined to make it look like this again:

Happy home.
And once I do, I will delight you all with an exceptionally exciting post. I met a design god this week. Yes, a god. A little jewish designer man god and he has forever changed my life. Check back soonly! Happy Saturday.

Elle Decor Showhouse

Here I am at SFO waiting for my flight home on an especially cold and dreary day. It seems the only thing that will warm me up is reliving the tantalizing home beauty I experienced on a home tour in the picturesque neighborhood of St. Francis Wood yesterday. One of the beyond gorgeous homes was the 2010 Elle Decor Showhouse. Of course my giddy little self was wanting to rush through the other four beautiful homes just so I could get to the good stuff. And let me tell you, the stuff was GOOD.

I warn you, I did not edit out many pictures. I wanted you to see all the beauty. Plus I finally got a new camera and I got a little snap happy.

House #3. The owner had a love of chinoiserie. I had a love of the owner.

Amazing dining room table. The owner had amazing taste and didn't use a decorator.

I wanted to move in here. Dark chocolate brown lacquered bookcases.

House #4. A 60's modern vibe.

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce to you the Elle Decor Showhouse.

LOVING this gorgeous sofa.

Love the drapes, fireplace and the "modern mount".

Oversized black linen wingback chairs worthy of a king.

Bright and beautiful breakfast nook

Obviously it leads to a fabulous outdoor eatery.

Is this tile FOR REAL?!

I'm moving in.

Yet another amazing dark library.

The Elle Decor Showhouse had ridiculous bathrooms.

More upstairs!!

My mother showing off our stylish footwear.

Amazing upstairs library.

I told you about the bathrooms. But check out that toilet. I don't get it.

Fit for a little princess.

My favorite bedroom.

My friend Mackenzie is looking for drawer pulls just like this.
Mack, I considered yanking them off for you.

The same vintage light fixtures that my mom has!

Mack, I think you should use this room as inspiration for your beach house.

LOVE this wallpaper in the bathroom.

And the beautiful baby subway tiles.

This room obviously has an outdoor seating area too.

Another amazing bedroom. Love that mustard color.

Industrial fixture that they added mirror to.

Crazy cool lamp.

Welcome to the master suite.

Wanting that mirror.

Again, an amazing bathroom. Look at that tilework!

My man friend wants to do a gallery wall. This is allowed.

The "basement". Can I please remind you that we're in SAN FRANCISCO.

Wet bar.

I would sit here and admire my LV trunk and large hand sculpture every single day.

I would actually do my laundry.

Maybe my favorite bathroom of the day.

Again, we're in San Francisco and this exists.

Such an amazing experience! Hope you all found some Sunday inspiration. I'll be boarding soon and hoping I have another four hours of DIRECTV and catching up on more Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Don't scoff at me. You like it too.
